Who is she?

Berna is an animation artist and a young director who loves to create comedy content with different techniques while writing new ideas, currently focuses on feminist stories based on personal experiences and observations. She loves to learn different techniques to get as creative as possible and specializes in hybrid comedy filmmaking.

She holds a BFA in Scenography, Costume Design, and Puppetry, and worked in live-action, theatre ateliers, and commercials. She did her Erasmus+ stop-motion traineeship at Mielenero Animation Studio in Italy. She completed two industry courses, “StopMoLab Industry Training” by MOMAKIN and “Animist Animation Directing” by Anim.ist, and collaborated with various artists.

She voluntarily formed a job-finding group in Istanbul for 1,000 people in live-action departments between 2019 and 2023, after being affected by the hardships of internship searches in the Turkish film industry. Her aim is to create more storytelling opportunities, contribute to the film industry with a feminist approach, support other talents, especially those from disadvantaged groups, and promote them. She advocates for mental well-being and is interested in the psychology of creative processes.

She was awarded an Erasmus Mundus scholarship to study RE:Anima Joint Master's in animation at LUCA, Aalto, and Lusofona Universities between 2024 and 2026 (www.reanima.eu). She is writing her thesis on comedy and improvisation in animation productions.
